Curran International Expands Its Global Reach
Curran International continues to earn the trust of clients worldwide with its patented tube cleaning methods designed for predictable NDE results. In December, Curran crews supported a major turnaround at a refinery in eastern Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the versatility and reliability of its clean-in-place capabilities for air-cooled and bundle-slab tube exchangers.
Predictable Inspection Cleaning
During this project, NDE inspections were front-end loaded in the outage schedule. Curran’s method ensured higher-integrity cleaning, allowing inspection teams to collect accurate data without the need for rework—something that had been a recurring issue with prior hydro-jetting attempts by another contractor.
Failure Was Not an Option
After multiple failed attempts using hydro-jetting, the refinery turned to Curran for its grit-blast cleaning technology. The decision followed a live demonstration at a nearby fabrication shop, showcasing Curran’s ability to clean tubes effectively, even in challenging conditions.
Quick, Coordinated Execution
Curran technicians were integrated seamlessly into the turnaround event. Work included:
- Tube cleaning for NDT of pull-and-clean bundles
- Cleaning exchangers across two operating units
- Managing off-site inspection at a fabrication shop in Juaymah
The refinery turnaround and inspection teams reported that all assigned exchangers were cleaned and inspected successfully, leaving them satisfied with both the inspection results and workflow efficiency.
Patented Grit-Blasting Technology
Curran’s patented system removes tenacious mineral and hydrocarbon scale, as well as internal fouling that can interfere with NDE data acquisition. Key features include:
- Vacuum containment: Captures all airborne debris, eliminating nuisance dust associated with dry grit-blasting
