Good for a wide range of PH 2-13 and hydrocarbons at @70°F. Contact Curran International for specific chemicals/temperatures/concentrations.

Temperature Resistance:

  • Tested in wet environment up to 180°F (82°C)
  • Thermally cycled from 212°F to 32°F (20 cycles no affect).
  • Contact Curran on particular service conditions.

Theoretical Coverage: (as supplied)

  • A 3-quart kit at 40 mils will cover the approximate coverage of 30 ft2

Surface preparation:

  •  All surfaces should be clean, dry, and oil free prior to the start of surface preparation.
  •  SSPC-SP 3 Power tool, SSPC- SP 6 Commercial blast or, SSPC- SP 10 Near White Metal (increased surface preparation will increase coating life)
  • Surface roughness: 1.0 Mil minimum surface profile for power tool cleaning, and a minimum of 3 mils for grit blast cleaning.
  • Coating shall be applied immediately after surface prep.

Environmental:

Apply when substrate temperature is between 60°F and 90°F. Substrate must be 5°F above dew point

Mix Ratios:

  • Blue Color Product
    • Mixing Ratio by Weight: 100 grams Base to 35.27 grams Hardener
    • Mixing by Volume 2 : 1 (Base to Hardener)
  • White Color Product
    • Mixing Ratio by Weight: 100 grams Base to 33.50 grams Hardener
    • Mixing by Volume: 2 : 1 (Base to Hardener)

Mixing:

  • Add the entire contents of the hardener to the base. These portions are accurately measured and best product performance will be obtained if all the hardener and base are combined.
  • Mix thoroughly with a stiff mixing stick, or small power type mixer until a uniform streak free mix has been observed and then for an additional minute.
  •  Once mixed thoroughly, box the material by transferring the entire contents into a clean mixing bucket taking care to ensure that all the material has been scraped from the sides and bottom of the original container.
  • Continue mixing until a uniform streak free mix has been observed and then for an additional minute. To help the pot life, material shall be broken down into smaller portions once fully mixed.

Thinning:

Thinning is not recommended. However, if absolutely required, use the following guidelines.

  • Thinning: Denatured alcohol or Acetone can be utilized for thinning and cleaning up. No more than 25% of either solvent can be added to the coating. Coating must be fully mixed before addition of solvent.

Coating Application: Brush, Roll:

  • Curran 500 can be applied by brush, or short nap roller.
  • Prior to the start of coating, all welds. Edges, and hard to reach areas shall be strip coated utilizing a brush.
  •  Once stripe coated, the first coat can be applied via brush or roller.
  • Coating shall be applied in two coats with each coat being applied at 15-20 mils DFT.
  • Care shall be taken to abide by the overcoat windows when applying the second coat.
  • Contact Curran International for detailed application procedures.

Recommended Dry Film Thickness:

30 – 40 Mils final DFT

Holiday Inspection:

Wet sponge testing is recommended with 67.5 VDC for 20 mils or less. Coatings above 20 mils utilize 100 volts per mil.

Repairs:

Should coating be mechanically damaged or a holiday is detected take the following steps to perform a repair.

1)  Abrade area if overcoat window has expired
2)  Apply another coat or coats of material to the repair area to the required DFT. (Care should be taken to ensure coating is only applied to the abraded areas if overcoat window has expired on the previous coat)
3)  Once coating has become tack free, QC repaired areas
4)  Contact Curran International for detailed application procedure.

Working Times:

At 70°F (21°C) the usable life of mixed material is 30 min. Working times will vary depending on temperature and amount of material mixed.

Storage/Shelf Life:

Store in temperatures between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C). Separate base and hardener will have a shelf life for 2 years when in the original, unopened container that is not damaged and stored at the above temperature ranges.

Cure Time:

@ 77°F, 55% R.H.

To Handle: 5-7 hrs

To Recoat: 2-24 hrs

To Cure: 24-48 hrs.

*Can be returned to immersed water service in 24 hours or when tack free as coating will continue to cure under water.

Note: Full cure should be confirmed by a MEK rub before exposing coating to chemical service.

Health and Safety:

Prior to using this product please review the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
DANGER: Causes eye burns and skin irritation. Vapor is harmful. Dried film of this paint may be harmful if eaten or chewed. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wear protective eye equipment when handling. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Avoid breathing vapor or mist. Wash thoroughly after handling.
