$900,000 in Immediate Savings Compared to Retubing

Curran International recently completed a full-length condenser tube ID coating project at a major generation and desalination facility. The coating strategy restored operational reliability and performance while avoiding the high cost of tube replacement.

The plant operator reported that the Curran coating project was nearly $900,000 less than a full condenser retube, providing a fast, cost-effective alternative while maintaining the unit’s operational capacity.

Faster Completion: 13 Days vs. 45 Days

Unlike traditional retubing projects, which previously took up to 45 days, Curran completed the coating application in just 13 days. This included:

  • Surface preparation and grit-blasting of CuNi tubes
  • Hydro-lancing to remove severe saltwater deposits
  • Application of Curran 1000T coating with a low-surface-energy release topcoat

The total dry film thickness achieved was approximately 75 microns, fully encapsulating pits and protecting the tube substrate from further corrosion and scaling.

Restoring Lost Operating Duty

Before coating, under-deposit corrosion and pitting had already cost the plant roughly 10% of condenser operating duty. Curran’s application restored the tubes to full functionality, maintaining thermal duty on-target and ensuring leak-free operation months after start-up.

A Comprehensive Approach to Tube Restoration

Curran’s expertise goes beyond tube ID coatings. The company provides:

  • Full or partial condenser retubes
  • Installation of full-length alloy tube liners
  • Repair ferrules and other tubular equipment solutions

This turnkey approach allows clients to optimize condenser reliability while reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Global Capability, Proven Results

With over 30 years of experience, Curran mobilizes globally to restore heat transfer equipment and deliver measurable performance improvements.
