Adaptability. Agility. Persistence.

Curran International is proud to announce its partnership with DropWise Technologies Corporation, a developer of a novel initiated Chemical Vapor Deposition (iCVD) coating technique. Together, the companies are bringing ultra-thin, high-performance release coatings to even the most complex components, improving resistance to water-scale, deposit fouling, and reducing routine maintenance requirements.

Thin Coatings for Complex Geometries

The DropWise iCVD process allows nano-thin polymer coatings to be applied conformally to surfaces with intricate geometry. Using vapor-phase deposition under vacuum, polymers are grafted onto metal surfaces at room temperature, enabling protection for components sensitive to heat or mechanical stress.

Curran has successfully applied iCVD coatings to complex stainless steel water filters, achieving complete coverage across all surfacesโ€”even those with fine 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm mesh.

Proven Performance

A demonstration project for a major appliance OEM showed:

  • Exponential runtime without cleaning
  • One-year duty equivalent over 150 cycles without water scale or fouling
  • Testing simulating a 10-year operational run showed no particulate attachment

Scanning electron microscopy confirmed 100% conformal coating coverage, preventing fouling on even the smallest filter openings.

Advanced Material Attributes

The iCVD coatings provide:

  • Low surface-energy for superior anti-foul performance
  • Chemical stability and resistance to harsh process fluids
  • Thermal endurance and high tensile strength
  • Conformality for complex geometries
  • Availability in medical and food-grade formulations

These coatings are ideal for electronics, instrumentation, aerospace, medical, and engineering components, protecting them from corrosion, wear, and fouling.

Wide-Ranging Applications

The DropWise iCVD platform is highly scalable and adaptable for:

  • Flow path and tooling components
  • Wear parts
  • Instrumentation and precision equipment
  • Any complex parts prone to fouling or corrosion
