When a Gulf Coast refinery faced a tight mechanical outage and delayed replacement of air coolers, Curran International was called in to provide a rapid, turnkey solution. The plan: restore in-service exchangers using C276 full-length tube liners to extend reliable operation of existing equipment.
Curran coordinated closely with refinery reliability engineers and the NDE contractor to synchronize tube cleaning, inspection, and liner installation.
Step 1: Tube Cleaning for High-Integrity NDE
Curran technicians grit-blasted all carbon steel tubes, ensuring:
The thorough cleaning allowed the NDE team to collect accurate inspection data quickly, supporting timely decisions on where alloy liners were needed.
Step 2: C276 Full-Length Alloy Liner Installation
Curran crews used multiple hydraulic expansion tools to install liners efficiently across four banks, while NDE teams continued data collection in parallel on other banks.
The combination of grit-blasted tube prep and full-length C276 liners restored thermal capacity, extended service life, and eliminated the risk of under-deposit corrosion in critical exchangers.
